What is Raven 13 training?

Raven 13 is a business simulation combined with an intensive, decision-based training where project teams face real challenges under pressure: limited time, incomplete information, risk, and tough decisions. Participants develop skills essential for effective project management.

Participants take on the role of a team executing a complex rescue operation at an underwater research station threatened by disaster. The fate of the trapped crew depends on collaboration, the quality of decisions, and the ability to respond to unexpected events. The training is based on best practices in project management. The simulation reflects different project phases and allows participants to experiment with various management approaches. Team members gain practical experience,  strengthen collaboration, and take responsibility for their decisions. Leaders gain insight into how their team actually works together before these dynamics impact real projects.

What does the Raven 13 training include?

  • Project management best practices

  • Decision accountability

  • Prioritizing under pressure

  • Managing risk in complex situations

Raven 13 and the project life cycle

Raven 13 is a simulation in which participants act as a team undertaking a complex rescue operation under conditions of limited time, fragmented information, and increasing risk with every decision. During the training, the group must set priorities, align strategies, make decisions under pressure, and take responsibility for managing the project. Participants learn to monitor project progress, identify risks, and manage resources and time as key elements of effective project management. The simulation reflects the full project life cycle, from planning and execution to project closure.

The program also introduces key project management concepts and provides practical context for working with stakeholders. Participants explore both agile and traditional approaches to project management and learn when each can be effective. Between phases, the facilitator pauses the simulation to explain observed dynamics, connect them to real-world project situations, and translate experience into practical management insights. Raven 13 is not a win-focused game, but a realistic simulation that helps teams understand how projects actually unfold.

Project Methodologies and Planning

In project management, choosing the right methodology is a key factor in success. Organizations today use a wide range of approaches – from traditional frameworks such as PRINCE2 or PMBOK to agile methodologies like AgilePM or Scrum. In Raven 13, participants experience how these approaches influence planning, decision-making, and project execution. They learn how different methodologies shape priorities, team collaboration, and responses to unexpected events.

Project planning is the foundation of effective project management. Participants practice defining objectives, setting project scope, scheduling tasks, and allocating resources. Through the simulation, they learn how strong planning improves predictability, reduces risks, and helps teams maintain control over project execution in complex environments.

Risk Management in Raven 13

Risk management is a central element of the Raven 13 simulation. Throughout the exercise, participants must identify emerging risks, analyze their potential impact, and decide how to respond under time pressure. Every decision influences the situation of the underwater station and may introduce new uncertainties. Teams learn how proactive risk management helps reduce the impact of unexpected events and protects project outcomes.

The simulation also highlights the importance of leadership, communication, and analytical thinking. Participants must coordinate actions, resolve emerging conflicts, and make critical decisions as the situation evolves. Through this experience, teams understand how structured risk analysis, clear responsibilities, and effective communication improve project control and increase the chances of success.

Project Management Knowledge in Practice

Effective project management training goes beyond theory. In Raven 13, participants apply key project management concepts in a realistic simulation environment. Instead of only discussing frameworks and methodologies, teams experience planning, coordination, and decision-making under pressure. The training combines practical exercises, case-based learning, and expert facilitation. Participants develop competencies essential for effective project management-from action planning and progress monitoring to successful project closure.

What does Raven 13 really offer teams and leaders?

  1. Better decisions under pressure
Participants experience firsthand how decision-making style affects project speed, quality, and risk levels.
  2. Shared project management standards
The simulation creates a common reference point that teams can apply to real projects.
  3. Greater team accountability
Decisions in the simulation have real consequences, fostering maturity and shared responsibility for results.
  4. Recognizing barriers and bottlenecks
Participants clearly see how unclear priorities or vague task allocation reduce project efficiency.
  5. Practical risk management
Teams practice identifying and managing risks before they escalate into serious problems.
  6. Strategy matters more than the plan
Participants discover that shared strategy and clear rules often matter more than a perfect detailed plan.
  7. Building a learning team mindset
The team practices pausing to extract lessons learned based on concrete facts.

Raven 13 develops practical project management skills through an immersive simulation experience. Participants learn how decisions, priorities, and collaboration influence project outcomes in complex and uncertain environments. The training is designed for project managers and teams responsible for delivering projects. Guided by an experienced facilitator, participants explore proven project management practices, modern tools, and effective decision-making approaches.

Who is Raven 13 for?
Raven 13 is most effective for:
  • project team leaders
  • project managers and department heads,
  • professionals responsible for complex projects,
  • teams working in fast-changing organizations.
Particularly valuable in situations where:
  • projects run alongside day-to-day operations,
  • roles and responsibilities are unclear,
